The results are in and a Wirral village is among the UK’s ‘Most Beautiful Places To Live!’
The Wirral Peninsula! With its sandy beaches and pretty picturesque views, it’s easy to understand why the peninsula has been voted and continues to be voted as one of the country’s top places to call home.
Locations were ranked using a number of factors such as their overall beauty, editorial opinions and reader suggestions from the previous year’s list’ by Global travel site Big 7 Travel.
The Isle of Skye in Scotland came first in the survey and Snowdonia National Park in Wales second.
Port Sunlight is the only Wirral location featured on a list of the UK’s 50 ‘most beautiful places’. The peaceful village was founded by a Victorian-era entrepreneur to house his factory workers. Its Arts and Crafts cottages are surrounded by paths winding through fields and woodland and the village contains 900 Grade II listed buildings, and was declared a conservation area in 1978. The village has been informally suggested for World Heritage Site (WHS) status to protect it from development and to preserve the unique character for future generations.
Big 7 Travel released a statement via their website which read:
“Port Sunlight was originally built by the Lever brothers to house workers in the Lever’s Sunlight Soap factory (now Unilever) and is now a place to take in beautiful architecture, history, art, and nature.”
“The village is just a short train ride from Liverpool, although the wide boulevards lined with cottages and tea rooms feel a world away from the city.”
“To conserve the character of the village, residents are given guidelines to ensure that the buildings are kept in excellent condition and look a certain way.”
